Macrios is a fast, private, local-first nutrition app. Our design is simple: your personal nutrition data stays on your iPhone. We do not run user accounts and we do not maintain cloud databases of your calorie logs, macro history, recipes, or OCR captures.
1. Local Storage First (Zero-Server Architecture)
Macrios stores your personal data locally on-device, including calorie logs, macro entries, parsed recipes, OCR text, and local SQLite databases. Widget-related data may be stored in local App Group containers so your widgets can read the same on-device records.
- We do not require account creation.
- We do not maintain Macrios-controlled cloud profiles or cloud nutrition databases.
- We do not collect personal nutrition data from your device.
2. HealthKit Permissions and Use
If you grant permission, Macrios uses Apple HealthKit to read categories such as sleep and workouts, and to write health entries such as body weight and nutrition-related values. HealthKit access is permission-based and controlled by iOS.
- HealthKit access is optional and can be revoked at any time in iOS Settings.
- We never sell HealthKit data.
- We never share HealthKit data with third parties for marketing or advertising.
3. Barcode Lookups via Open Food Facts
When you scan a barcode, Macrios sends the barcode number to the Open Food Facts API so the app can fetch public nutrition information for that product.
- No personal identifiers are included in this request.
- We do not send your name, email, account ID, or health logs.
- The response is used only to display product nutrition data in the app.
4. On-Device Processing (OCR and Text Logging)
Free-text meal logging and OCR recipe scanning are processed entirely on-device using Apple frameworks, including VisionKit and Apple NLP technologies. Recipe images and recognized text are not uploaded to Macrios servers.
5. Purchases and StoreKit
In-app purchases and subscriptions are handled by Apple StoreKit. Payment processing and billing details are managed by Apple under your App Store account, and Macrios only uses entitlement information needed to unlock paid features.
6. Retention and Deletion
Because your data is local-first, you control retention by editing entries or deleting the app. Removing the app can remove local records unless they are recoverable from your own device backup setup.
7. Updates to This Policy
We may revise this Privacy Policy as product features evolve. If we update it, the effective date will be changed to show the current version.
8. Contact
